Melissa is a skilled writer and editor with a keen eye for detail. She became well versed in handling day-to-day media needs as the communications director for more than 30 state representatives at the Colorado Legislature. Her professional network speaks to her ability to build and maintain relationships with members of the media.
Melissa is experienced at writing news releases, marketing material, web site content, blogs, columns, newsletters and speeches, as well as preparing clients to participate in news conferences and media interviews.
Her strong work ethic, credibility and policy sense made her a key player in Colorado public policy during her time at the Capitol.
By the age of 25, Melissa had advanced to become chief of staff for House Minority Leader Mike May. In that role, she advised legislators, managed personnel and directed policy and messaging.
Since 2011, Melissa has been working in the private sector providing professional services that include writing, editing and research. She works mainly with public relations firms, lobbyists and other commercial enterprises.
Her diverse portfolio demonstrates her versatility. However, her focus remains helping others reach their goal of portraying themselves effectively and articulately to their target audiences.
Melissa is a life-long Coloradan who grew up on the Western Slope. She studied communications and public policy at the University of Denver, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, graduating Magna Cum Laude with Departmental and University Honors. She currently lives in Centennial, Colo. with her husband, two young sons and their miniature dachshund.
